A solid phase extraction method has been developed to analyze pesticides in a variety of high sugar foods. This method uses a minimum of organic solvents and no halogenated solvents. Thirteen pesticides were found to have reasonable recoveries at ppb levels. The pesticides were spiked into corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, and grape jelly and quantified with a standard in matrix to minimize signal enhancement effects. The sample is dissolved in water and loaded directly on to a Varian Nexus SPE tube with no pre-conditioning. After a water rinse the analytes are eluted and analyzed using GC-FPD for phosphated pesticides and GC-ELCD for halogenated pesticides. |
